Reinforcement of Drinking by Running: Effect of Fixed Ratio and Reinforcement Time.
Rats were required to complete varying numbers of licks (FR), ranging from 10 to 300, in order to free an activity wheel for predetermined times (CT) ranging from 2 to 20 sec. The reinforcement of drinking by running was shown both by an increased frequency of licking, and by changes in length of the burst of licking relative to operant-level burst length. In log-log coordinates, instrumental l...
متن کاملUniversal negative poisson ratio of self-avoiding fixed-connectivity membranes.
We determine the Poisson ratio of self-avoiding fixed-connectivity membranes, modeled as impenetrable plaquettes, to be sigma = -0.37(6), in statistical agreement with the Poisson ratio of phantom fixed-connectivity membranes sigma = -0.32(4). Together with the equality of critical exponents, this result implies a unique universality class for fixed-connectivity membranes. Our findings thus est...
متن کاملFixed-ratio escape and avoidance-escape from naloxone in morphine-dependent monkeys: effects of naloxone dose and morphine pretreatment.
Lever pressing by rhesus monkeys was maintained by morphine injections during four equally spaced sessions each day. During other periods, lever pressing was maintained by timeout from a continuous naloxone infusion (escape), or by timeout from a stimulus that preceded naloxone injections, or termination of the injections (avoidance-escape). As naloxone dose increased in the escape procedure, r...
متن کاملPartial reinforcement across trials impairs escape performance but spares place learning in the water maze.
We studied the effects of partial reinforcement on escape performance and place learning in the water maze. Rats given 50% reinforcement across trials (i.e. the escape platform was present only on odd trials) were compared to controls given 100% reinforcement (platform present on all trials). Control groups either received 8 or 4 trials per day, which was equal to either the total number of tri...
متن کاملThe effects of differential negative reinforcement of other behavior and noncontingent escape on compliance.
The present study evaluated the effects of noncontingent escape and differential negative reinforcement of other behavior in reducing problem behaviors and increasing compliance in 2 children with disabilities. Results showed that both methods reduced problem behavior and increased compliance for both children.
